What is a good reaction time?
For a simple visual stimulus, typical adult medians run around 250–320 ms on a phone or laptop. Under ~220 ms is genuinely fast; esports professionals and elite athletes often sit near 150–200 ms on dedicated hardware. Device, browser and screen add real lag, so compare yourself on the same device over time rather than against a single universal number.
Can I improve my reaction time?
Practice on a specific task reliably improves your speed on that task, and factors like sleep, alertness, caffeine and time of day move results noticeably day to day. Whether practice transfers broadly beyond trained tasks is scientifically debated — we won't promise that. Why do results differ between websites?
Every test carries its own display and input latency. Phones with 60Hz screens add more lag than 120Hz gaming monitors. That's why your trend on one instrument matters more than any absolute cross-site comparison.
What does this test measure?
Simple visual reaction time — the gap between a stimulus appearing and your tap — a classic vigilance measure related to the Psychomotor Vigilance Task (PVT) used in alertness research since Dinges & Powell (1985). It's recreation and self-tracking, not a medical or diagnostic measurement.
